Who we are

Board of Directors

NAAFI employees are uniquely structured to support its purpose, with 3 dedicated and professional groups of staff:

148 Squadron, Expeditionary Force Institutes, Royal Logistic Corps, (EFI).

Managed by NAAFI; EFI are unique. Serving in uniform, EFI staff work alongside Forces personnel on deployment, where civilian contractors are not usually authorised to go.

Naval Canteen Services (NCS)

Also managed by NAAFI, NCS is an organisation dedicated to serving side by side with Forces personnel on Royal Navy ships around the world, again where civilian contractors are not usually authorised to go.

NAAFI civilians

The majority of these are dependants of Armed Forces personnel, and support permanent services in areas such as Germany, Northern Ireland and The Falkland Islands, many of whom volunteer for deployment when required.

The MOD does not own NAAFI; NAAFI is a seperate legal and trading entity but it is accepted that, the MOD has the ability to exercise some control over NAAFI through the NAAFI Council.

The NAAFI Council is made up of Senior Officers of the three Armed Forces and the MOD. The NAAFI Board report to the NAAFI Council.

Sir Ian Prosser

Non-Executive Chairman

Sir Ian joined the Board as Chairman in October 2008. Knighted in 1995 Sir Ian, a chartered accountant has a long and distinguished business career mainly in the brewing and hospitality industry. Previous roles have included Chairman and Chief Executive of Bass PLC and also Chairman of Intercontinental Hotel Group. He has been a Non Executive Director for Boots, Lloyds TSB and Non Executive Chairman of BP Plc. Sir Ian was awarded a degree of Doctor of the University of Birmingham in 2001, and is also a member of the CBI President's Committee. rn

Reg Curtis

Chief Executive Officer

Reg joined the Board as Chief Executive Officer in January 2009 and has extensive experience working in senior positions in the retail and business sector. Prior to his appointment at NAAFI, previous roles included Divisional Managing Director at Alpha Airports Group, Grocery Commercial Director of Safeway and Commercial Director at W.H. Smith. He has also held various buying roles within Tesco including that of Deputy CEO of Tesco Hungary.

Hayden Robinson BA (Hons) FCMA

Chief Financial Officer

Hayden, a chartered accountant joined NAAFI in 2002 and became a member of the board in 2006. Having held a senior financial role within the company he was appointed Chief Financial Officer in November 2009. Hayden’s career has included Finance and Operational roles in The Boots Group Plc and Management Consultancy with Deloitte & Touch LLP.

James Wilde

Deputy Chairman

James joined the Board in October 2006 having held senior executive roles within the support services sector including the position of Chief Executive Officer of Rentokil Initial. He is currently Chairman of ATPI Limited and Zenith Vehicle Contracts Group and a Non-Executive Director of AFI Holdings.

Alison Clifford-King BSc FCA

Non-Executive Director

Alison joined the Board as a Non-Executive Director in August 2004. As a chartered accountant with a career in finance, Alison has held strategic planning roles in the retail and leisure sectors including Finance Director of Mothercare. She currently works as an independent consultant.

General Sir Redmond (Reddy) Watt KCB, KCVO, CBE

Non Executive Director

General Sir Redmond joined the Board in September 2008. Knighted in 2003 and again in 2008, Sir Redmond has held the roles of Commander–in-Chief Land Forces and has previously served as General Commanding Officer 1st Armoured Division in Germany, General Officer Commanding London District and General Officer Commanding Northern Ireland. At present Sir Redmond is president of Combat Stress, the Ex-Services Mental Welfare Society and a Governor of Wellington College.

Alan Smith BA Hons.

Non-Executive Director

Alan joined the Board as Non-Executive Director in October 2006 having held a number of senior roles within the retail industry. Alan was formerly Chairman of Robert Dyas, Chief Executive Officer of Somerfield Plc, Punch Taverns Plc, Boddingtons Plc, Esporta, Evans Halshaw Holdings Plc, B&Q Plc and Superdrug Stores Plc. Alan is currently a Non-Executive Chairman of Adams Childrenswear, Fisher Leisure Holdings and Floors to Go and a Non Executive Director of the Flybe Group.
